What are they? My hand splint/brace, my foot brace/splint, my bottles (which I call jars) and the bedsheets folded under me. The gas bottles, actually I use 2 newer jars that are green and hard to see thru, and one from Jamaica hospital which is at least a year old.
They are useful because I can let my caretaker/ night nurse and wife Alice sleep during the night. If I fill up most of the jars, she empties them and scrubs them clean again.
The braces for the hand (older) and newer foot, I use at different times. I got the hand brace from Jamaica hospital and got the foot brace later, from a foot specialist. So 1 bottle and the left hand brace, that I use most nights, are from Jamaica hospital.
The foot brace, I wear on PT days when going to the PT. I can see the usefulness of them both, the hand brace straightening and strengthening my right hand and the foot brace straightening and strengthening my right foot. Or the OT will cut them off.
They better not!
I almost forgot the pinkish bowl, that I just call "bowl" & it's from Jamaica hospital as well. It's used if I don't make it to the bathroom or am nauseous. Urp, slop...
Now you know what is still useful now. Ovid said, "The vulgar crowd values their friends according to their usefulness". God bless you, Matt McCabe

Remembering Luke, John and others, all gone in 2018-2019
Luke Perry passed away on March 4, 2019 at the age of 52. I confess that I haven't seen his TV show Beverly Hills 90210. Then big screen director John Singleton died on April 28, 2019 at the age of 51. I saw "Boyz n the Hood" once on TV a long time back. I'm 55 now, plus some months, so I've outlived them and other Johns, like John Lennon and John McCain, who passed on at 82 on August 25, 2018. I didn't talk about Aretha Franklin or others (Doris Day,Eddie Money, Rik Ocasek, Boom Boom Bundy and.... fill in the blanks). I am thinking of The Beatles, John (Lennon), Paul (McCartney), George (Harrison) and Ringo (Starr). I forgot my supervisor at Hofstra University, George Greaney, who passed away last year at 71.
John Donne once wrote, "Death, be not proud." 100 years ago, all the people alive are now dead. Donne meant that death should not be proud of taking away life. In the Bible, it says, "Where, o death, is your victory? Where, o death, is thy sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:55) God took away the sting of death and its pride. It gives me pause as a left handed, White, disabled middle aged man. God bless you, Matt McCabe

Mildred, Karen & Reuven
Who are these people? They have been absent for 2 weeks from the weekly Aphasia group at Brooklyn College. Mildred did not speak and had lots of gray hair. She might be 80 or higher. Karen used a laptop computer to speak so she was better than Mildred. Probably 50 or so. Reuven was 40+ and I don't know why he didn't sign up for the next term. It starts on the 2nd Wednesday of February 2020. I wonder if Karen and Mildred, also the name of my grandmother, will come on 2/5? Let's see. God bless you, Matt McCabe
P.S. I don't know Reuven and Mildred's last names, so I didn't look online for their obituaries. I tried Karen as I know her last name and came up empty. All 3 live in Brooklyn. I live in Queens. We'll see if they show up starting 2/5 at Brooklyn College.

FAMILY DOLLAR?
Dear People, I will explain why I decided on the name of this blog. Joan is my caretaker and married elder sister who turned 60 this year plus my wife of 24 years, Alice. Hence, All FAMILY no DOLLARs. I do have a Chase debit card for movies and lunch/dinner.
But zero dollars for shopping, etc. I'm poor. I am trying to work here so I have some credit. God bless you, Matt McCabe
