Luke Perry passed away on March 4, 2019 at the age of 52. I confess that I haven't seen his TV show Beverly Hills 90210. Then big screen director John Singleton died on April 28, 2019 at the age of 51. I saw "Boyz n the Hood" once on TV a long time back. I'm 55 now, plus some months, so I've outlived them and other Johns, like John Lennon and John McCain, who passed on at 82 on August 25, 2018. I didn't talk about Aretha Franklin or others (Doris Day,Eddie Money, Rik Ocasek, Boom Boom Bundy and.... fill in the blanks). I am thinking of The Beatles, John (Lennon), Paul (McCartney), George (Harrison) and Ringo (Starr). I forgot my supervisor at Hofstra University, George Greaney, who passed away last year at 71.
John Donne once wrote, "Death, be not proud." 100 years ago, all the people alive are now dead. Donne meant that death should not be proud of taking away life. In the Bible, it says, "Where, o death, is your victory? Where, o death, is thy sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:55) God took away the sting of death and its pride. It gives me pause as a left handed, White, disabled middle aged man. God bless you, Matt McCabe
